Professor Jeremy Tavare
Professor Jeremy Tavaré is Director of the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute for Health Research (EBI) at the University of Bristol. This Institute is enhancing innovation in health research by fostering exploration at the interfaces between disciplines, working with industry and other external partners, by supporting the next generation of young talent and so accelerating the translation of our world-class science to the bedside and community. SPHERE is working very closely with the EBI.
Jeremy’s role as Deputy Director in SPHERE involves connecting the engineers with clinicians and other health care professionals.
Jeremy obtained his BSc and PhD degrees in Biochemistry at Bristol, which was followed by a period as an MRC Travelling Fellow at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Dallas. He then returned to Bristol as a British Diabetic Association Senior Research Fellow. He was Director of Bristol’s MRC Cell Imaging Facility for ten years and then Chairman of the Bristol Proteomics Facility. He has been a Professor of Biochemistry since 1999 and was Faculty Research Director for the Faculty of Medical and Veterinary Sciences from 2010 to 2012.
